KLIAVS: Larger show but same turn-out

This year's KL International AV Show (KLIAVS) was larger than last year's but the turn-out was more or less the same.

Dick Tan of 3Dot Events Sdn Bhd, who organised the show, said the 2011 KLIAVS was about 10% larger than last year's show.

"There was one more floor for live performances," he said.

Dick added that around 10,000 to 12,000 people attended the show.

"Bear in mind there were two other major events in other places in Kuala Lumpur on that same weekend.

"And we gave away more complimentary tickets than last year," Dick said.

As for the business side of the show, he said an AV exhibitor reported around RM2mil in sales while one TV manufacturer reported brisk sales of its 40" LCD TVs.

On suggestions that the KLIAVS be moved to a different venue next year given that the Bukit Bintang area (where J.W. Marriott hotel, the show's venue, is located) is always jammed up, Dick said there are many factors to be taken into account.

"There are the issues of logistics, higher rental costs, lack of appropriate function rooms, finding right-sized rooms for sound system demos and facilities for loading. All these have to be taken into account," he said.

The KLIAVS has been held at J.W. Marriott for 11 years and people have become accustomed to the show being held there, he said.
